Apprenticeship information
Apprenticeship is a programme of formal education and training. It combines learning in your place of work, with learning in an education or training centre.
On successful completion of a number of phases of training, apprentices become recognised craftspeople or professionals.
How to appy for an Apprenticeship
Apply directly to employer
You can find apprenticeship jobs for craft and new apprenticeships on apprenticeship.ie. Apply directly to the employer before the closing date.
You can also approach an employer to ask if they will consider taking you as an apprentice.
All employers must be approved by SOLAS before they can hire an apprentice. Employers can find information about how to become an apprentice employer.

If you are interested in a craft apprenticeship, you can also contact the Apprenticeship Section of your local ETB for details about applying.
Apprenticeships in other areas of industry
Apply to the industry lead or co-ordinating provider for the apprenticeship you are interested in. You can also contact the Apprenticeship Section of your local ETB for information.

Apprenticeship in Social Care
The Apprentice in Social Work is an innovative role that combines earning with learning as you work towards becoming a qualified Social Worker. The HSE aims to create a diverse workforce with a variety of lived experiences.
The apprenticeship consists of two main elements:
Practical, on-the-job experience with an HSE team, developing key skills.
Off-the-job academic study at UCC, leading to an NFQ Level 9 Masters in Social Work or a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work Studies.
